Worthy of the Hype @ Phu Pho, East Victoria Park, W.A.

I really enjoyed my night at Phu Pho. The atmosphere is basic aesthetically, however it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The restaurant has a great vibe to it – you feel welcome but you don’t feel intruded on during the night. I also loved the fact it was BYO and that there was a liquorland within walking distance. Having a cold beer with my Vietnamese food was a great bonus and definitely added to my overall experience.

The service on the night was good. There are no complaints but there were no standouts either. The food isn’t expensive but it’s definitely good quality.

For starters, we had the Grilled Beef Rice Paper Roll. These rolls were lovely and fresh.

That night, I had a craving for some squid, so we decided to order the Fried Squid with Sweet and Sour Sauce.  I’m so glad we did and didn’t miss out on this treasure. The squid was cooked perfectly. It wasn’t rubbery and was soft but the outer was crunchy. It really was cooked well and was a delicious plate on its own.
For the main, we shared the Phu Pho Special Crispy Chicken Saigon Style. It was a recommendation by the waitress and it tasted beautiful. Now I definitely recommend it!

We also ordered steamed rice for two and some Stir Fry Mixed Vegetables with Garlic and Oyster Sauce. The servings all round were very generous and I loved that the vegetables weren’t overly drained in the sauce mixture or overcooked.

Overall, I cannot wait to go back. The menu is amazingly huge – it takes a little while to read. While we were waiting for our food, we were looking around the restaurant at what other people were getting. Everything looked great and the smells were delicious. The food and service are great quality and the BYO aspect is a little treat.
