An Old Favourite @ Dusit Thai, Northbridge, W.A.
Dusit Thai is one of my favourite restaurants in Perth and for good reason. Last weekend we ventured here and once again, I wasn’t disappointed.
There are numerous reasons why I love Dusit Thai. The main reason is the fact that little effort needs to go into your night out. There is no stress over what you should order – all the food is good here. You are provided excellent service – water, menus and the such are provided without the need for asking. The service provided is not too intrusive but you feel like you aren’t forgotten. It’s an easy, enjoyable meal out and on this particular Friday night, it was exactly what I needed.
Normally, we stick to our favourites (the curries), however on this particular occasion we decided to get one favourite and two new dishes to try. We ordered three mains (between two), as we were limited for time and entrees may have made us late for our next arrangement. Our first dish was one of our favourite Dusit Thai dishes, Duck Red Curry.
This dish is amazing. The curry sauce is spicy but also sweet, which I think is due to the fresh pineapple. There is always amble amount of duck within the dish and the quality of the duck is quite good, as the meat isn’t fatty. The dish is quite spicy and if you don’t particularly like spicy food I would recommend letting your waiter know as this dish has lots of fresh chillies added to the sauce.
Our second dish of the evening was the green papaya salad.
We hadn’t ordered this dish before and to be honest, we were both quite surprised with it. The salad comprises raw papaya with tomatoes, peanuts, dried shrimp and chilli. It is a crisp, fresh salad with a bit of a hit to it, thanks to the fresh cut chillies. I was a bit apprehensive at first, as I hate a salad that seems to have sat somewhere in the dressing and is all soggy and a bit spoiled. This salad seemed to have been made just minutes before hitting the table and was a lovely accompaniment to our overall meal.
Our third dish of the evening was the deep-fried chilli squid. I devoured this plate very quickly. The crumbed mixture was really tasty and the squid wasn’t over cooked.
The other dishes I’ve had during my many visits have also been above standard. The curries are all flavoursome, and like I said earlier, you can’t really go wrong here. I love having the pad thai as well (which is normally my take-away order).
This restaurant is fully licensed and has the option of BYO wine. The meals are on the pricier side for Thai food but the atmosphere, service and food are all worth it. This restaurant has won numerous awards, including gold plate awards in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007, 2008, and 2010.
If you haven’t been here, I can’t recommend it more. Perth has many restaurants that are hit-and-miss, however Dusit Thai is the exception. Make a booking today and I really recommend the Red Duck Curry!
