$12 Surf and Turf goes down a treat @ The Wembley Hotel, Wembley, W.A.

On Wednesday night, it was A’s night to cook, so she decided that we’d be venturing out for dinner. Her choice in venue was The Wembley Hotel. We’ve been here before and have always had a lovely dinner so decided to try their $12.00 300gm T-bone steak and prawn meal with salad or chips.

The venue is spacious and we decided to sit near the restaurant part of the Hotel near the kitchen. It was easy to find a table and we decided to sit on the couches, as this seems like our usual spot when we go to The Wembley. It’s counter service to order food but even so, it’s fast and easy. The menu is basic pub-grub which is reasonably priced. After ordering at the till, A went to the bar to grab some drinks. Both of us ended up going to the bar that night to get a glass of red wine. The bar staff were extremely accommodating to my requests in regards to knowing when the bottle was opened (as I hate oxidised wine).

The food was highly anticipated as there were a lot of people having the T-bone steak special around us. It looked good from afar and when it finally arrived, I was very pleased. The T-bone steak was cooked exactly like I like it – medium rare. I was a little worried that the chef might overcook or undercook it due to the high volume of T-bone requests, however it was slightly pink and perfectly cooked. Another plus was the fact that the steak was char-grilled and it was a decent sized serving. There were three prawns on top, which weren’t overcooked and the garlic sauce was really creamy. You can order your Surf and Turf with chips or salad and on this occasion I ordered the chips. They were golden on the outside, crunchy and very moreish. An excellent meal for $12 (let alone more!).

The Wembley is definitely worth a visit if you find yourself tired on a Wednesday evening and keen to dine out. At such a reasonable price for a decent cut of meat, you can’t go wrong!

Update – 17 July 2012

I’ve been to The Wembley many times since writing this review and I’ve had probably about 20 of these meals now. In all of that time, I’ve only been disappointed once! If you order your steak with salad, you won’t be disappointed either – as it is typically fresh and not drowning in the dressing.
